EMBA (Executive Master of Business Administration)

According to the regulations of EMBA’s program, there are seven points should be followed.

First, before the start of the second year, graduate students in our department should select an advisor. Changing advisors is not permitted unless there are sufficient reasons, and the consent of the original advisor is obtained. The advisor should be a tenured assistant professor or above in our department. If a non-departmental member is needed as the advisor due to the research of the thesis, approval from the director of College of Business and Management is required, and a regular faculty professor from our department should also be appointed as a co-advisor.

Second, course selection for each semester should be approved by the department director or the advisor.

Third, students are required to take at least one course per semester and can take up to 12 credits. The minimum graduation credits are 36 (excluding the thesis), and a maximum of 6 credits from other departments can be counted towards the degree.

Fourth, graduate students who receive scholarships or financial aid from the Ministry of Education or the university must assist with undergraduate internships and rotate in the office of Business Administration department.

Fifth, before graduation, graduate students must pass the departmental preliminary examination (research proposal) and the formal thesis. The departmental preliminary examination is conducted in a written review format, and if necessary, the examination committee could request an oral presentation, subject to the approval of the advisor. The preliminary examination is evaluated by two committee members, and they will be recommended by the advisor. Their selection will be decided in consultation with the department director. One member should be from outside the uni, and the other should be from within the college. A passing grade is achieved with an average score of 75 or above. Those intending to apply for the thesis in the first semester must submit the research proposal by May 31st, and for the second semester, the application must be submitted by December 31st. Under the provisions mentioned above, the departmental preliminary examination for the thesis proposal follows a rolling review system to accommodate students’ research progress effectively. Only after passing the departmental preliminary examination can students proceed with writing the thesis and apply for the formal thesis.

Sixth, the thesis committee will consist of three members, with the advisor being the one of them. Other two additional members will be recommended by the advisor, and their selection will be decided in consultation with the department director. One member should be from outside the uni (usually the same as the preliminary examination committee member), and the other should be from within the college. The thesis will be held upon approval by the Office of Academic Affairs. The advisor cannot serve as the convener, and if there are multiple advisors, only one can be nominated to participate in the oral.
Last, EMAS’s students in our department should comply with the relevant regulations of the university and the department to jointly maintain the high-quality teaching and research of our department.
